Some of you may already know Clarity’s Education Director, Tracey Pike, but here’s a few fun facts to get to know her a bit better!
1. Tell us a little about your family.
I have 2 amazing children:
Ashely, 26, works for a high-ranking elected official in Kentucky. She recently married the love of her life, Max and they are adjusting to “adulting” well.
Except for a short time in kindergarten when he wanted to be an apple-delivery man, my son Tyler, 22, is fulfilling his lifelong dream of serving our country in the military. He is in the Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC) program at Indiana State University and recently graduated from the grueling Advanced Officer Training camp in Ft. Knox, KY.
I am married to my husband, Lonnie Pike, who owns and operates Lonnie Pike’s Farmers Insurance. He clearly knows a thing or two because he’s seen a thing or two and there’s really not much he can’t do; except swim or tolerate heights. Much to our surprise, we are adjusting to a recent empty nest quite nicely.
2. Tell us a bit about your education and professional background.
I am a graduate of Columbus East High School, I continued my education and received an Associate Degree in Travel and Airlines with a minor in marketing from Sullivan College in Louisville, KY. I then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies from Indiana University (IUPUC) and a Certificate in Organizational Leadership from Purdue University. I received my Sexual Risk Avoidance Specialist (SRAS) designation from Ascend in 2012, and currently sit on the National Advisory Board of Ascend.
I began volunteering for Clarity (then Pregnancy Care Center) as a volunteer speaker for the I Decide for Me (formerly called Choose to Wait) middle school program in 2001. I served on the board of Clarity (in 2004) for a short time before accepting the position I hold now, Education Director.
I serve on the Board of Directors of Leadership Bartholomew County and am an active member at The Ridge church in Columbus.
3. What is your favorite thing about working at Clarity?
People. People I get to work with; Students, families and teachers we get to walk alongside in the education process; Clients we serve; and ALL who partner with us in a myriad of ways to make this beautiful labor of love we call Clarity truly impact lives.
4. What hobbies do you have outside of work?
I enjoy playing board games and card games with my family. I love to drink coffee and read Bible studies early in the morning, I like to go for walks on country roads, and I really enjoy shopping.
5. Are you an introvert or extrovert?
I don’t even like to be home for long periods of time because I feel like I’m missing out on life; does this answer the question?
6. Do you have a most embarrassing moment you would share with our readers?
I had travelled to a school outside Clarity’s territory to teach high school classes all day and train another pregnancy center’s staff on how to implement our program. When I got home that night I noticed I had my shirt on inside out and backwards so the printed tag was clearly on my chest. I had to have been impressive.
7. Be honest, what song or band is your guilty pleasure?
I do love me some Rod Stewart.
8. If you could eat one food for the rest of your life without getting sick of it, what would it be?
Butter. And if butter doesn’t qualify as a food for you, I’ll say pizza… and yes, I butter my pizza.
9. If you could hop on a plane today and fly anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Hands down; Israel.
