A New Connectivity of Care: Clarity’s Care Hub

A New Connectivity of Care: Clarity’s Care Hub

Dear Friends,

At Clarity, our mission is simple yet profound: we believe every person matters and deserves hope. We provide holistic care to individuals facing challenges related to pregnancy, sexual health, and emotional well-being, offering services like pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, STI testing, counseling, and parenting education—all at little to no cost to those we serve.

We’re able to accomplish this at Clarity because of you. Our donors, supporters, and volunteers. Those who are beyond generous with their finances, talents, and time. We couldn’t do it without you. In 2023, we served and impacted the lives of a record 12,000 individuals. This includes serving 5,100 unique clients within our centers, a 1,500-person increase from the previous year! The increase of those 1,500 individuals led us to realize the hope of life is needed now more than ever!

To meet the challenges and needs of our ever-changing culture, we are launching a comprehensive $10 million “You Matter” Capital Campaign. Alongside covering our ongoing $3.5 million Clarity-wide annual operating expenses, this campaign will lead to the development of a new Connectivity of Care model for pregnancy care, to meet needs holistically and at a deeper level than ever before. An essential part of this new model of care is the establishment of our first Clarity Care Hub in Columbus Indiana, allowing us to unify our services in one location and create a more integrated care model! With this new location, our clients would then be able to receive pregnancy care, STI testing and treatment, and/or restorative care all in one location. Your support can help us continue this vital work.

Will you consider how you or your organization can contribute to this campaign, whether through direct donations or by hosting gatherings with our Clarity team to spread awareness? Read a true story in the words of a recent Clarity patient within our centers to see what your partnership enables us to accomplish:

I found out about Clarity through a friend who told me they helped her when she was pregnant. Granted, I didn’t know at the time I was pregnant, but I knew I was scared. I wanted to know if I was pregnant, so I booked the first appointment I could. When I was on the phone, I knew almost immediately I was going to be in the right care and felt comfortable talking to them. I walked in for the appointment to such a welcoming greeting and open arms from the ladies there, and I knew I was going to be okay. I took a pregnancy test and found out I was pregnant! They asked me to do an ultrasound and I was so excited, but then we found out I was 7 months into my pregnancy! I was terrified to realize how far along I was, but they were calm and kept telling me that it was going to be okay. After the ultrasound, we discussed the next steps: how I could get insurance, what was best for me and the baby, and the resources available. I even received a gift from Clarity with pamphlets for my questions, a onesie, prenatal vitamins, and more. [Within my appointments,] we discussed not only what to do for the baby, but also what to do for myself and my mental health. Each discussion with them and educational video [they provided] made me feel more prepared. The videos allowed me to earn points for the cute baby boutique where I could find helpful things for the baby like car seats, strollers, clothes, diapers, and so much more. Every appointment I have with Clarity has made me feel accomplished, supported, and loved. I will forever remember and be grateful for everything they did for me! I will always recommend ladies that are scared to know if they are pregnant, or even need support while pregnant, to go to Clarity. They have opened my eyes to such an amazing support system. They didn’t just care about the baby, they cared about me.

The generosity of our donors is how we have reached individuals like this patient time and time again. Together, we can ensure that every individual knows they matter, and provide the hope they need for life. Together, we can provide crucial support that empowers women in their pregnancy journey.

Sincerely,

Eric Allen

CEO

Senior Project Memory Boxes for Hearts Restored

Senior Project Memory Boxes for Hearts Restored

Clarity’s Hearts Restored team had the opportunity this spring to partner with Haley Potter, a local 2024 senior, for her senior project! Haley had been personally impacted by the way her aunt grieved her own miscarriage. She wanted to honor her aunt’s loss, which led her to Hearts Restored. She decided to craft memory boxes for women who have experienced reproductive loss. Since Haley is a member of a Clarity partner church, she appealed to her church’s mission team to underwrite the costs for the project goal of 30 boxes.

Each special keepsake box contained a teddy bear, pink and blue beaded bracelets with a foot charm, a journal, pen, chapstick, tissues, and a copy of “I’ll Hold You in Heaven” by Jack Hayford. The boxes also included a hand painted rock by Haley and her family, a personal letter from Haley, and information about the Hope After Reproductive Loss care group. During Haley’s project presentation, one of the panelists praised Haley and stated she so appreciated the thought and care behind the boxes. Openly weeping, she shared that she had herself experienced 5 miscarriages. At that moment, Haley and Hearts Restored Assistant Director, Karen Riley, had the opportunity to minister to the panelist and present her with one of the boxes. She was so moved and appreciative that she had to excuse herself to regain composure.

Since Haley’s presentation, they have given 12 boxes to two different funeral homes. One of the funeral homes asked how they could get more of these boxes! They also have a meeting scheduled with the CRH Bereavement team to share the memorial boxes. Realizing the opportunity for connection and healing that these boxes have opened, Karen spoke to one of the Senior Project coordinators about future seniors helping with this new Legacy Project. An upcoming senior may utilize the project but put their own creativity into it. That way, a community need is still being met and affords the student their individuality and creativity. Our Hearts Restored team looks forward to mentoring more seniors with this project. If you have an interest in helping with this project, please reach out to Karen Riley at 812-341-5114 or karen.riley@claritycares.org.

A New Danger: At-Home Abortions

A New Danger: At-Home Abortions

On September 15, 2022, with Senate Bill 1, Indiana was the first state since the reversal of Roe v. Wade to ban abortion with few exceptions. It is considered one of the most restrictive bans on abortion to date. Men and women in Indiana experiencing unplanned pregnancies have felt panic and fear. With abortions unavailable to them in their home state, they look for abortions online.

Online searches often lead individuals to the option of the abortion pill, easily purchased from over 80 online sites. The selling of the abortion pill is not monitored outside of the United States. It is shipped to anyone in any state, often without a doctor’s appointment, ultrasound, or even a pregnancy test. No questions asked. Individuals are being sent what they believe are abortion pills; with no instructions, no medical information, no side effects or physical risk warnings, and no follow-up instructions. The devastation is unreal.

According to the FDA, abortion pills are considered safe and effective for pregnancies up to 10 weeks. However, with no questions asked and the availability of online purchasing, women are taking the pills past that time and into their second trimester. Pills are being purchased by women who are not yet pregnant “just in case” and by women with ectopic pregnancies in dire need of medical attention.

Clarity centers have received calls from emotionally traumatized women who have taken abortion pills incorrectly resulting in failed abortions; from women who are hemorrhaging and have no idea what medical interventions are available to them; and from women who have recently experienced a traumatic at-home abortion who are in desperate need of immediate emotional support.

With the majority of abortions resulting from the abortion pill, and with Indiana’s current law regarding abortion, there is no doubt Clarity’s call volume and client visits will continue to increase. A rising number of women will be seeking answers for their unplanned pregnancies and help due to the destruction caused by the abortion pill. Join with Clarity in helping these women understand how much they and their babies matter.
