Let Clarity help!
If you’re pregnant, smoking and want to stop for your and your baby’s health, Clarity can help!
Clarity rolled out a program called Baby & Me Tobacco Free, in April of 2016, and we are excited to be able to offer it to our community. We can help pregnant women and in many cases a support partner as well, to quit smoking and stay quit.
The Baby & Me Tobacco Free program consists of four educational sessions where the client (and her support partner) will meet with a client advocate to get information about the importance of stopping smoking, the effects smoking have on their health and their baby’s health, and helpful advice and tips on how to quit. Together, we’ll make a plan to help you quit smoking. We divide these 4 appointments out equally over the course of the pregnancy, and then we’ll meet monthly after the baby comes, for the first year of baby’s life.
If the mother has successfully quit smoking, she will receive a $25 voucher for free diapers on the 3rd and 4th prenatal session, and then she will receive one every month that she tests tobacco free after the baby comes, for up to 12 months.
If the mother has a support partner who lives with her and qualifies, she can get double the vouchers after the baby comes, again, up to 12 months. We currently are offering additional promotional items, which include a beautiful diaper bag, and baby items to put inside it, as supplies last.
We often hear an urban legend that says that you can’t quit cold turkey without hurting your baby, but this is not true! Quitting, whether cold turkey or otherwise, is a very good thing. Cigarettes contain over 7,000 chemicals, none of which are good for your baby. Nicotine shrinks the veins, reduces blood flow, oxygen, and food supply to the baby. There is significant evidence that smoking during pregnancy can cause premature births, low birth weight, stillbirths, placental abruption, and contributes to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
If you are pregnant and interested in quitting smoking, give us a call for more information or to set up an appointment at 812-378-4730. We are currently offering this program in Columbus, but are able to serve other county residents at this location.
